Movember or No-Shave November?

September is prostate cancer awareness month yet we often hear about men growing out their facial hair in November. What’s it all about?

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide. There is a lot of motion to this campaign that includes Move for November (get some exercise, have some fun, and raise money for health services). Founded in Australia in 2012, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a global motorcycle fund-raising event to raise awareness of prostate cancer and male suicide prevention. This year, the ride in Toronto raised $87,586 and was supported by sponsors and 430 riders dressed to the nines on their classic and vintage motorcycles.

The goal of NoShave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. Donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.

Raising awareness about men’s health is a good reason to grow a moustache and even to sport a beard but remember that a beard is something that is groomed and maintained, otherwise it’s just scruff. Don’t let November be your excuse to stop taking care of your appearance. Trim and line your facial growth. If you can’t do it yourself make an appointment with your local barber. We can help you ditch the itch of a growing beard as well as provide products to improve hair health and shine to keep you looking your best. Have a look at our beard products.
